I had previously read many of Sitharaam’s writings in the way of his articles, columns and stories. I have overtime come to admire the maturity and sensitivity with which he portrays his characters and narrates the plot. It was not surprising, therefore, that when I heard about his first book, I was keen to read and review it.

Represented by The Book Bakers literary agency and published by Bookstreet Publications, The Himadripuram Adventure by Author Sitharaam Jayakumar has intriguing elements of history, action, adventure, politics, betrayal and romance. The story is set in the fictional kingdom of Himadripuram. The setting of the book is the first thing that attracts. The descriptions are so vivid that they will transport the reader and make them instantly feel like a part of the story.

The plot of the book is certainly novel. It revolves around a conspiracy and a coup to overthrow the king. Every character has been beautifully etched out with enough doses of mystery to keep the readers turning the pages. The protagonists as well as the antagonists have been given a vital role in the plot, adding a layered depth to the narration. Jagan Mohan and Vishnu Sharma’s characters were my personal favourites, and I enjoyed their escapades as they steered the way forward to what goes on to become an edge of the seat adventure.

Now about the narration. It is fast paced and exciting with never a dull moment. Despite an intricately woven plot, the author has kept the language easy and simple, making the reading experience enjoyable and entertaining. There are also plenty of twists and turns which help to shape and maintain the pace of the story. The intensity of the plot builds up and then it all comes to a wonderful end with a breathtaking climax.

As a reader who enjoyed this thriller very much, I can state with conviction that I am now looking forward to a sequel. The Himadripuram Adventure is a book that must go on the TBR of every fan of action, thriller, suspense and fantasy. Or shall we say, it must be read by anyone who appreciates a beautifully written book.
