It was a sun kissed day in spring,
A joy that I had never known
My heart as though, would burst to sing!
The world was all my very own

The first time that I held you close,
And took your tiny hand in mine
The bliss that just a mother knows,
And yet cannot, in words, define

The first time that you smiled at me,
It was a toothless grin
For me it was the ecstasy,
Of a new life to begin

The first words that you ever spoke,
Were jumbled bits of sounds
For me, a sense of worth awoke,
My joy just knew no bounds

How can I now in words explain?
That every time you cry
My heart constricts in utter pain,
Myself, I know not why

As night time comes, I hold you near,
And sing you lullabies
To drive away your every fear,
You dream of sunny skies

Oh, child of mine, forever on,
In far more ways than one
I love you more with every dawn,
And every rising sun

A wish, a prayer, a song to sing,
A lifetime full of smiles
A love beyond just everything,
From a mother to her child
